Deep, dark ruby colored with explosive aromatics of blackberry, mulberry, allspice, and kirsch. The palate is richly textured with big fruit flavors of wild currant, cassis, and blackberry pie along with notes of cola, savory herbs, licorice, and cardamom. This wine is full- bodied with beautifully ripe fruit and firm tannins that lead to a long and pleasing finish.
Mature Cabernet Sauvignon vines struggle in shallow soil in the Holbrook Mitchell Vineyard to produce a wine with deep, dark color and bold aromatics. A spice box of cocoa, mint, and cracked pepper mix with yeast, game, and mulberries on the nose while blackberries, currants, and cassis fill the palate. Sweet oak flavors subtly weave their way through the well-integrated tannins before culminating in a long, beautiful finish that persists with a little grip.
The Holbrook Mitchell Vineyard is situated in
the western hills of Yountville, an AVA since 1999. This site has been continually farmed since 1878 as orchards, dairy, and finally vineyard. The mature vines struggle in shallow soil to yield low quantities of expressive grapes. The area offers a unique combination in Napa both with soil and climate. The soil is sedimentary in origin, gravelly alluvial earth with rock. Climatically, the cool marine currents from San Pablo Bay to the south are trapped when they reach what are known as the Yountville Mounts, keeping the air naturally cooler even on the warmest summer days and allowing the grapes plenty of time to develop distinct flavors and show off the local “terroir.”
